Community action

In relation to the UN's Millenium Development Goals (visit http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/ for more information), we'd like to organize events to raise money for the following goals:

3- Promote gender equality and empower women.

Now I know what some of you might be thinking: "Men and women are different", and yes I agree with you. Men and women will never be the same no matter how much time we spend arguing, BUT I have no doubt that they must have the same rights and have access to the same opprtunities.

5- Improve maternal health.

There are some basic care that we take for granted in developped countries, that others do not have access to. Why is that? Should pharmaceutical companies reduce prices for citizens of the third world countries? Is it fair to reduce prices when others have to pay the full price? I ask myself these questions, but do not have a clear answer... Yeah I think that pharmaceutical companies could give a price break without short changing themselves. They are definitely not making that much money off of thirld world countries because guess what? If you can't afford something, you're not going to buy it.

8- Develop a global partnership for development.

Guess what? Globalization is much more than just being able to communicate with anyone around the world. Yes the world is getting smaller and smaller, and whatever "luxuries" we have in the U.S. can be shipped to almost any destination, but with this technology and advancement comes the dangers of global warming (we're sharing that problem too!), deforestation, pollution, toxic waste (some people decide to dump it wherever - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/5321272.stm)

Anyways, these are the millenium goals that we will attempt to tackle with our organization. We are still in the beginning stages of developping our ideas, but we'd love to hear what ideas you have.

Thank you,

Bénédicte
